How Can Chiropractic Care Help Cancer Patients?

Cancers are primarily an environmental disease with 90-95% of cases attributed to environmental factors and 5-10% due to genetics. Environmental, as used by cancer researchers, means any cause that is not inherited genetically, not merely pollution. Common environmental factors that contribute to cancer death include tobacco (25-30%), diet and obesity (30-35%), infections (15-20%), radiation (both ionizing and non-ionizing, up to 10%), stress, lack of physical activity, and environmental pollutants.

It is nearly impossible to prove what caused a cancer in any individual, because most cancers have multiple possible causes. For example, if a person who uses tobacco heavily develops lung cancer, then it was probably caused by the tobacco use, but since everyone has a small chance of developing lung cancer as a result of air pollution or radiation, then there is a small chance that the cancer developed because of air pollution or radiation.

Chiropractor, Dr. Eric Lampinstein applies gentle, small adjustments to the spine. Dr. Lampinstein says chiropractic care can be beneficial to many cancer patients’ overall health.

He notes, “By adjusting and correcting the neuro-musculoskeletal dysfunctions, we reduce stress to the nervous system, which in turn, helps restore the body’s ability to heal. It’s also a way of helping the body to function better.”

Chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and stiffness in your joints and muscles caused or intensified by surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Specifically, chiropractic adjustment helps to properly align the spine and other joints and restore nerve function. It can also help alleviate a variety of symptoms, including:
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Painful walking
  • Nausea
  • Neuropathy (pain or numbness in the hands and feet)
While chiropractic care can be helpful to patients undergoing treatment, there are some precautions, which should be taken to ensure safe delivery of care. A chiropractor should always review the patient's most recent X-rays and bone scans to ensure there is no bone metastasis. Also, the patient’s platelet count should be carefully monitored. According to a recent research study, Upper specific Chiropractic adjustments have a profound effect on the physiology, serology and immunology of individuals. The effect of specific upper cervical adjustments on the immune system, CD4 cell counts individuals were measured by CD4/mm3 in the blood. These tests were performed by the patients’ independent medical center where they were under medical supervision for the regular groups were dramatically increased over the counts of the control group. A 48% increase in CD4 cells (Immune cells) was demonstrated over the six-month duration of the study for the Chiropractic adjusted group.

What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Chiropractic treatment seeks to reduce Subluxations, which is the abnormal motion or position of joints. It occurs when a joint is out of alignment and/or when a joint is restricted from moving and functioning, as it should.

Subluxations can occur when one or more of the vertebrae (bones of your spine) moves out of position and creates pressure on your spinal nerves, impairing your nervous system. Chiropractors evaluate patients to pinpoint the source of Subluxations. They then use a type of hands-on adjustment as their core clinical procedure to correct the problem.

When patients receive a chiropractic adjustment, they typically lay down on a special table. The chiropractor then uses his or her hands and/or special equipment to apply gentle pressure and small adjustments to the spine (including vertebrae) and/or other joints in the body, such as knees, ankles, hands, or feet.

This is perfectly normal and harmless. Occasionally, patients may experience mild discomfort lasting for a short duration following a chiropractic adjustment. The majority of patients, however, experience immediate relief.

What is a Verebral Subluxation?

A vertebral subluxation is a misaligned spinal bone that interferes with the vital information being carried over the nervous system to every organ, tissue, and cell in the body. It is what the chiropractor addresses and assists in correcting. A vertebral subluxation is a cause of decreased expression of life in the body.

Vertebral subluxation always causes the body to work at less that 100%
You cannot ever reach your potential in life without regular chiropractic care. There are no alternatives to chiropractic care. Chiropractic is never an approach to treating disease. The innate intelligence of the body can always run it better than the finite, educated mind.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a form of healthcare. Chiropractic may very well be one of the least understood philosophies of life and health. It is based upon a few very simple ideas.

The body is designed with an inborn ability to maintain itself in a state of proper function. A newborn baby may seem small, fragile and helpless, but within that body is the ability to make food into living tissue, to heal cuts and bruises, to adapt to changes in the environment, to produce the chemicals necessary to perform every bodily function, to fight off invading organisms, and to live as much as 100 or more years. In short, to lead a healthy, productive life.

The brain and nervous system are the primary tools by which we attain proper function; what we commonly call “health.” Every organ, gland and cell in the body depends upon messages carried to and from the brain to function in a coordinated manner so that each part can benefit the whole body, producing a full and healthy life.

Interference in the nervous system reduces the body’s ability to function in a coordinated manner. A corpse has a brain and nervous system, but it does not have life. There is no power or energy flowing over the nervous system. Similarly, a paralyzed person has lost function due to injury to the nervous system. Even slight damage to the delicate and vital nervous system can reduce the body’s ability to function at its fullest potential.

A spinal misalignment that interferes with the nervous system (called a “vertebral Subluxations”) creates a reduction in coordinated function. Slight misalignments of the bones of the spine caused by everyday, common activities can interfere with the ability of the nervous system to carry messages that are necessary for the successful accomplishment of those everyday activities, not the least of which is the attainment of maximum health.

Chiropractors correct vertebral Subluxations. In our office, the single objective of the chiropractor is to locate and correct vertebral Subluxations in adults and children so that families and entire communities are able to express life at a higher level.

If you and your family are not seeing a chiropractor regularly, you are not doing all you should for your life and health. It’s as simple as that!

Cancer & Chiropractic

Being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing procedures or treatments to fight the disease can impose significant stress on your neuro-musculoskeletal system, including your bones, muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. You may experience aches and pains in your back and/or neck, abdominal pain, nausea, irritability, lack of energy, headaches, sciatica (pain that radiates from your lower back to your leg), or difficulty moving and walking. Cancer is known medically as a malignant neoplasm. It is a broad group of various diseases, all involving unregulated cell growth. In cancer, cells divide and grow uncontrollably, forming malignant tumors, and invade nearby parts of the body. The cancer may also spread to more distant parts of the body through the lymphatic system or bloodstream. Not all tumors are cancerous. Benign tumors do not grow uncontrollably. They do not invade neighboring tissues, and do not spread throughout the body. There are over 200 different known cancers that afflict humans.

Determining what causes cancer is complex. Many things are known to increase the risk of cancer, including tobacco use, certain infections, radiation, lack of physical activity, obesity, and environmental pollutants. These can directly damage genes or combine with existing genetic faults within cells to cause the disease. Approximately five to ten percent of cancers are entirely hereditary.

At Café Of Life Chiropractic, experienced chiropractors help cancer patients to deal with such debilitating pain and discomfort. The chiropractic care they provide can also reduce stress and increase mobility, flexibility, strength, and function, as well as help improve quality of life and overall well-being.

Many doctors encourage patients to make chiropractic care part of their treatment plan. Chiropractic care is one of the most commonly practiced and widely accepted healing methods utilized today. It’s a piece of the puzzle. It’s another way in which we’re taking care of the body as a whole. Dr Eric Lampinstein’s approach to Healing is world-renowned. He utilizes an integrative approach to healing through working with the central nervous system, spinal biomechanics, and the inherent healing wisdom of the body. We also offer integrative medicine, nutritionalists, acupuncturists, fitness instructors, physical therapists, life management professionals, and massage therapists.
